Guy, don’t spoil my day; why is your face so sad like a toddler who lost his candy. That was me speaking to Nedu.

He walked into my house looking dejected, and disappointment can be seen all over his body.

Is it not my neighbor? He responds angrily. She just called me a good for nothing.

I looked up from the book I was reading and saw that those words really touched him. It’s a pity that he brought himself to this, I thought to myself, but then he was the one that threw his respect to the dogs.

I offered him a seat and began to talk to him. Nedu, my friend, the world is such a place that you reap what you sow.

Respect is not given on a platter; you have to earn it. People respect you more when you respect yourself.

Bearing in mind that anybody can disrespect you, should keep you on your toes at all times.

Respect all men but know when you crossing the line and turning yourself into a loyal dog. If they push you too far to get your respect, be careful because they might want to use it against you.

Respect is reciprocal, they said, but have you realized that some people are out to insult you no matter how much you respect them. Cut such people away from your life after making it clear that they don’t respect you enough.

What if they are close friends or family Nedu cuts in. He has already started helping himself to the peanut on my table.

Knowing that friends and family are the most people to disrespect in life should make you work harder and place yourself in the higher echelon during such gatherings.

A wealthy family member is rarely disrespected during family gatherings, even if he or she is the youngest.

A rich man selects his friends while a poor man is at the mercy of others to be called into a gathering or not.

Believe it or not, humans respect success. The more successful you are, the more respect they accord you anywhere you find yourself.

Enjoying your company doesn’t harm you. Keep to yourself when you have to. Disappear for no reason and let them find you. The more access they have to you, the lesser the respect they will show.

Say things and mean it even if it’s not a popular opinion. They won’t hate you; instead, they will respect you from a distance. Nobody respects a pushover. Have your own principles and stick to them.

Mind your company; lousy friends bring disrespect. Don’t insult anybody. If anyone tried to disrespect you, counter it immediately, no matter the consequences.

Nedu stood up, and I saw that the enthusiasm he had earlier is gone. He looked me straight into the eyes, and as if he was reading my mind to ask him what the problem was, Bros, I cannot do all these.

I smiled and told him that the choice is his; to become a king or a clown is both his choice to make.

As he walked towards the door to leave, I asked him what exactly lead to the confrontation. He started laughing and said he collected the cookie the woman bought for the child and ate it all while the baby ran to her mother crying.

Nedu, you are a glutton I shouted at him.

He rushes out of my room, laughing on his way out.
